It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad MMOG World

Call me crazy, but does anyone else find it bizarre that Mythic Entertainment just hired “tweety” as their internet relations manager?

For those of you unfamiliar with “tweety”, she once worked as a guide in EverQuest, and was caught violating company guide policies. She vehemently spewed all over a third party board demonstrating her disgust for your average EQ player, players she was hired to take care of in a professional manner. Perhaps she did take care of them properly while in the game, but vomiting up such anti-customer bile in a public forum, even anonymously, demonstrates to this writer an inability to handle yourself in a professional manner. If some aspect of your job so disgusts you that you have an uncontrollable desire to purge publicly, then I suggest you’re in the wrong line of work or volunteer service.

And this is really the crux of the matter concerning Mythic’s hiring of tweety; instead of going out and finding a trained professional, maybe someone with a degree or experience in customer service or public relations, they hire someone who has clearly demonstrated a complete disgust for many of those which she will be called upon to serve, or at least act as internet liaison between. They hire someone who has already proven that they have uncontrollable contempt for not only many customers, but for the rules and guidelines of the very company they are in the service of. Although SOE is not a pretty company, and they do have their faults, and I’m sure the guide program is something equivalent to a fascist version of the Boy Scouts, the fact is that tweety violated the rules of her position, and did so in a public display of complete contempt for the very customers she was supposed to be professionally serving.

My guess is that they did so as some sort of slap in the face of SOE; they felt it would be a public relations coup if they hired in someone that SOE supposedly mistreated (and banning her private account was mistreatment), someone who was only saying what everyone felt anyway. Someone who would represent everything that was “wrong” with SOE and make a statement about Mythic. No offense to tweety, but surely she realizes she doesn’t have the personality for this kind of work, and that this can only be a kind of petty attempt on Mythic’s part to publicly embarrass SOE. What else could it be?

You can’t tell me that out of all the people who would be qualified to hold that job, certainly more qualified than tweety, that they chose tweety out of a blind examination of the applicants’ resumes? Then consider, hiring someone that has already demonstrated an uncontrollable dislike, even hatred, for what is presumably a rather large segment of your potential customer base? AND has demonstrated a clear disregard for the trust invested in her by the company she was in service of?

Of course this is yet another example that children and emotionally challenged, reason-deprived morons are running the current MMOG market. It takes a complete idiot of a company to build a game that REQUIRES PvP to enjoy the full breadth of the game anyway (see PvP rant here); but to be so exceedingly shallow that you put your customer relations at risk for the opportunity to spit on your competition is remarkably stupid.
