31 July 06 - 09:58Why fight RMT?
Because it works. When
ige.com runs out of WoW gold something is going right on Blizzard's side. Don't stop hammering them Blizzard, don't stop hammering them. Ban the farmers and they get new accounts and it's a big win for Blizzard and everyone who plays by the rules.

24 July 06 - 16:46This is how you "Play" a Role Playing Game?
From the debate over at Brokentoys.org.:
"You see it's all about having the best stuff. Who cares if it's actually fun? Just get the best stuff, just get the stuff."
Excuse me while I disagree. I'm going to discuss spoiler sites, RMT, causation of unidirectional solutions, twinking, one-dimensional play, lost dynamics, grinding. Or the philosophy of status > levels > gear > currency > time > self > socialization > community > fun... Or how to turn a playground in to a slave labor camp production assembly line. Work prevents me from finishing. Maybe tomorrow?

24 July 06 - 09:58Vanguard stabs only remaining fans in the back.
Brad reads TINAC. Related to: This. "And yet in Vanguard the down time is even worse than EverQuests down time currently is. From dialog with NPCs, to boats, to corpse runs, to the death penalty Vanguard is all about having massive amounts of free time to play and lots of mouse clicking. When they demo Vanguard for people they do it in God Mode because the down time is just that bad."
Good luck with that whole, 'No really we want more people to play than just you 50k cat ass losers!". Too late, Brad. Beta 3 and they still haven't figured out what the risk reward is going to be? Told you. Worst. Game. Ever.

19 July 06 - 09:10The Paradox of the Content Devourers
The 90% of your player base that doesn’t want to devour a years worth of content in six months are constantly coming in to contact with the devourers. We all know who they are. The best examples are the customers of World Of Warcraft that complain about having been level sixty for two years and the only thing they have to do is PvP or raid.

13 July 06 - 15:20Fumbling around in the closet mumbling
"I know it's here some where!?!" Where's that place like EverQuest Express http://www.eqx.simplenet.com Absor's old VAK site he updated from his gub-ment job before he went to work for SOE? Or that place like Brenlo had oh what was it called? Usenet? Or Abashi on the forums? Or the guy from Mobhunter? What was his name? Or even good old Sonya from tweety.bowlofmice.com ...
But some links remain to the past.
Point is... The time has come for the most obnoxious ass kissers in the world to dust off their resumes.

13 July 06 - 10:36What is it about the Fans?

First and foremost you must read this. You see as much as every single current game designer wants to pooh-pooh the herein linked document, it is true today and it will still be true tomorrow.
If you haven’t read "
The Player Whimping Guidebook" in a while, especially if you make games for a living, you should re-read it. You’ve forgotten most of what this document says. It is important to you and your current and future fans that you remember.

As usual I began thinking on the topic of why. Being true to myself it became the usual. Want. Need. That will make me happy. Realization. Anger. Sadness. Wet. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
